United Way of DeKalb County has awarded a grant for $5,000 to Hoosiers Feeding the Hungry’s “Meat” the Need Initiative to help ensure hunger relief agencies serving food-insecure residents in Auburn County continue to have access to nutritious meat.
According to Feeding America, 4,690 DeKalb County residents regularly struggle with food insecurity – 1,800 of which are children. The United Way contribution will cover the processing cost of approximately 3,500 pounds of donated livestock and deer – providing over 14,000 more meals through local hunger relief agencies.
